Recently, our CAMH Education Evaluation team began working with the Sheldon Kennedy Child Advocacy Centre in Calgary. We thought you’d like to learn a little more about this great project.
Who are you and what are your positions at CAMH?
We are the CAMH Education Evaluation team: Megha Bhavsar, Evaluation Co-ordinator and Erica McDairmid, Manager of Evaluation. What project were you involved with?
Our Evaluation team responded to an RFP from the Sheldon Kennedy Child Advocacy Centre (SKCAC) in Calgary, Alberta, to evaluate their e-learning training program. Their program focuses on the fundamentals of trauma-informed practice in relation to childhood abuse and trauma. We were awarded the project and travelled to Calgary in early December to meet the project partners, including Detective Brenda Neis, the Project Co-ordinator at SKCAC (pictured).
What is the goal of this project?
The goal of this Public Health Agency of Canada–funded project is to develop, produce, disseminate and evaluate an online training program that will provide a consistent and foundational understanding of the issues around childhood abuse and trauma. SKCAC is collaborating with content experts from several organizations including Alberta Human Services, Alberta Health Services, Alberta Education, the Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse, the Palix Foundation, Canadian Mental Health Association, the University of Calgary, and the Zebra Centre to create the module-based training program. As the Evaluation team, we will be working closely with the curriculum developers, software team and the project co-ordinator to measure the extent to which the training program increases participants’ skills and promotes cross-collaboration, as well as the feasibility of scaling the program.
