Canada has lost a statesman, an advocate, a friend. Michael Wilson dedicated his life to public service.
A strong voice for mental health advocacy, Michael was one of the first to speak out against the social stigma of mental illness. He shared the story of his son’s passing with courage, and he made it a life mission to bring mental health out of the shadows – eliminating prejudice and discrimination once and for all. His dedication to CAMH, our vision and our mission, was one of a kind. He led our earliest fundraising efforts and worked tirelessly to increase awareness and understanding of mental illness.
Michael cared deeply for his community and his country and in every single moment, his humanity and integrity were a beacon for us all. It’s impossible to overstate his contribution to Canada, to the cause of mental health, and to all of the lives he touched. He will be deeply missed but his legacy will remain an inspiration to all of us. Our deepest condolences to Margie and the entire family. On behalf of the CAMH community, rest in peace dear friend.
