Transgender and gender diverse people are significantly more likely to attempt suicide than those who are cisgender. This disparity is not a result of their identity, but rather the discrimination and oppression they face on a daily basis.
Today, CAMH researchers are working with the 2SLGBTQ+ community to develop more inclusive, gender-affirming mental health care. By collecting health data based on the lived experiences of people from marginalized groups, we can begin to address the systemic barriers they face not just at CAMH, but within the broader health system.
